The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is a programme of activities available to members aged 14-24. The programme is made up of three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold and encourages participants to undertake a varied programme of activities including a volunteering project, skill based activity, physical activity and an expedition, with the added challenge of a residential project at Gold level. The DofE Bronze, Silver and Gold awards consist of 4 sections:
Volunteering
Bronze: 3 months*
Silver: 6 months
Gold: 12 months
Physical
Bronze: 3 months*
Silver: 6 months OR 3 months**
Gold: 12 months OR 6 months**
Skills
Bronze: 3 months*
Silver: 3 months OR 6 months**
Gold: 6 months OR 12 months**
Expedition
Bronze: 2 days, 1 night
Silver: 3 days, 2 nights
Gold : 4 days, 3 nights
* A further 3 months must be undertaken in the Volunteering, Physical or Skills section.
** If the previous DofE award has not been completed an additional 6 months must be added to the longer of the Physical or Skills section.
Residential
The Gold DofE award includes a 5 day, 4 night residential away from home and taking part in a shared activity.
